Debbie Purdy


Born in Zimbabwe and came to South Africa in 1974. Matriculated at Fairbairn College and immediately joined the Cape Technikon where I completed my National Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography. I have been registered with the professional board for radiographers.

I have been affiliated with Tygerberg Hospital from my student days until becoming a chief radiographer and have locumed for private radiology departments and other provincial hospitals were I added to my experience as a diagnostic radiographer.

At Tygerberg Hospital, being an academic hospital, I have accumulated a vast amount of experience in imaging in the areas of trauma, resuscitation, ICU, theatre, angiography, cardiac angiography, pediatrics, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, Mammography ect. My passion has always been CT which has helped me tremendously with the application side of the PACS and advanced CT packages and giving training to all medical staff.

With a keen interest in IT and much interest in the PACS, put together at Tygerberg hospital by DR Otto Schulze, I became the interim PACS administrator in 2008 where I was involved with the PACS/RIS project.

I am currently the PACS/RIS administrator at Tygerberg Hospital and involved with a vast array of responsibilities ranging from training, maintaining data integrity, data migration, maintaining quality assurance and quality control, troubleshooting all types of problems, maintaining workflow, maintaining the continual functioning of the servers, connectivity issues ect.
